The program takes a highly practical and industry-facing approach, with opportunities to pitch your scripts to panels of industry experts, see your work performed by professional actors, and receive script development support from leading UK film and television production companies. You will also complete a unique industry project writing for an external client, building real-world experience in communication, teamwork, and pitching.

Curriculum & Modules
The MA Screenwriting curriculum is structured across three trimesters, progressing from foundational screen storytelling craft through television writing and collaborative projects to an independent final major project. Each module blends practical workshops, industry engagement, and critical analysis to develop your creative voice and professional skillset.
Explores the key roles and responsibilities of the contemporary screenwriter from industrial, ethical, and craft perspectives. You will develop communication skills by pitching a short form project idea and collaborate with students from other disciplines on a production exercise.
Study the craft of feature film screenwriting, analysing key principles including concept, character, and structure. You will receive extensive support to outline a feature film narrative and deliver a scripted first act.
Develop authentic and detailed career paperwork and supporting materials including a CV and personal profile. Elective Upskilling sessions offer opportunities to develop screen industry skills outside your chosen discipline.
Using contemporary examples of online content, this module develops your understanding of writing for different digital media platforms. You will work collaboratively with students from other disciplines to produce a video artefact for an external client.
Learn the particular skills a television writer needs, including how a series bible is developed and maintained through seasons. Explore working as both a single writer and within a collaborative Writers' Room environment.
