The BA (Hons) Practical Filmmaking at Met Film School prepares the next generation of screen creatives by building the creative and technical skills essential to succeed in today's film, television, and new media industries. Curriculum & Modules
The BA (Hons) Practical Filmmaking curriculum is structured to progressively develop your storytelling, technical, and management skills across all stages of the filmmaking process. Story to Script
Core ModuleLearn the fundamentals of developing a story or concept and adapting it into a screenplay. You will explore core principles of storytelling including plot, characters, conflict, and resolution, and practise industry-standard screenplay formatting and screenwriting techniques.
Visual Approaches in Film
Core ModuleExplore craft skills and filmmaking techniques in cinematography, sound, and post-production. You will learn practical techniques in framing, composition, lighting, and editing that create mood, tone, and meaning for the viewer.
Fundamentals of Production Management
Core ModuleLearn the fundamentals of producing and successfully delivering a short film. This module covers pre-production planning, budgeting, scheduling, and the organisational skills essential for managing a professional production cycle.
Director's Lab
Core ModuleLearn how to approach a script as a director, gathering and communicating creative ideas, and preparing and working with actors and crew. You will develop your directorial voice through practical exercises and scene work.
Genre Production
Core ModuleCreate a 15-20 minute genre-based short film, demonstrating advanced-level work in narrative, technical, and management skills. You will take on a head of department role and lead a collaborative production team.
Graduation Project Development & Delivery
Core ModuleDevelop, prepare, and deliver your final graduation project in a key creative or head of department role, supported by a mentor. Your completed project will be showcased to an audience including industry professionals.
