Curriculum and Course Modules
The Electrical Techniques curriculum combines theoretical knowledge with extensive hands-on practice across two semesters. Students develop skills in electrical installation, motor control, safety codes, and the fundamentals of industrial automation.
Students learn the basics of translating diagrams to working circuits, covering electrical diagrams and symbols, and building circuits correctly from electrical schematics including extra low-voltage communication, alarm, and control systems.
Students install electric motor control circuits using relays, contactors, starters, push buttons, and other electrical control devices. The course also covers electronic and electro-mechanical sensing devices commonly used in industrial applications.
This course is entirely focused on the Ontario Electrical Safety Code. Students learn through exercises to demonstrate the ability to use the code book to determine proper equipment, installation, and maintenance requirements for electrical equipment.
Provides an overview of PLC installation, I/O wiring procedures, general programming procedures, memory basics, number systems, timers, counters, arithmetic functions, number comparison, and data move functions.
This math course provides skills in basic math, trigonometry, geometry, and algebra relevant to solving problems within the Electrical program.
