Our Building Surveying MSc course is designed to provide you with the expertise, knowledge and skills required to embark on a career within the built environment, as a Building Surveyor or one of the many related professions.
Designed as a conversion course, we welcome applicants without an undergraduate degree in property or construction-related fields, and no prior work experience is required. This building surveying master's will allow you to take your first official steps within the building surveying career path.
Building surveyors carry out many important roles within the property and construction industry and their skills are widely respected. This course will give you a sound knowledge of several areas including construction technology, sustainability in the built environment, building adaption and refurbishment and construction contracts and contract administration.
You'll develop a comprehensive understanding of the duties and skills required of a building surveyor and will be well placed to join this diverse and fulfilling body of surveying professionals, on completion of this course.

Our building surveying MSc degree has been mapped to the requirements of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) and we are seeking accreditation from this key professional body. Many other courses within London Met’s School of the Built Environment are already accredited by RICS.
Our Building Surveying MSc has been designed with industry professionals to cover all topics relevant to the role of a chartered surveyor. Throughout this course, you will apply your knowledge to real life situations, complimented with site visits, guest lecturers and other opportunities to engage with industry professionals and employers. You'll also be encouraged to become a student member of one or more professional bodies during your studies.
The academic team on the building surveying master's course includes members of professional bodies, including the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB), Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) and the Association of Project Managers (APM). Through our close connections with both industry and the professional bodies, you will not only access important industry insights, but also build up connections for prospective future employment.
In your studies you'll develop excellent communication skills and have the opportunity to work with industry-standard technology and equipment. Within the School of the Built Environment, we have facilities including materials testing and computer labs with specialist software such as AutoCAD, Revit, MS Project and Primavera.
A 60 credit capstone applied research project on a relevant contemporary topic will provide you with an opportunity to research an area of particular interest to you.
