About the Department
The Department of Civil Engineering has a program giving place to the information in such fields as structure, hydraulic, transport and geotechnical, which contain the basic information about civil engineering. Its principle is to teach the skill of research, design, planning and practicing as well as the ability to develop creativity. The primary purpose is to train graduates who can produce scientific thought for their society, who improve themselves, who make analyses and syntheses and who are aware of their moral, ethical, legal and professional responsibilities to the society and their profession. Another purpose is to enable our graduates to use their acquired information and knowledge in their professional life after school and to adapt to innovations.
Fields of Employment after Graduation
Civil Engineering is one of the fields of engineering with the widest range of working. Civil engineers are employed at almost all public and private institutions and organizations. On the other hand, Civil Engineering is one of the professions with the highest number of private working facilities. In other words, the graduates can open and run their own business and workshop and work as contractors. In recent years, Turkish construction firms have had an important share in international projects. In this respect, civil engineers have a wide range of job facilities abroad, as well. Some of the civil engineering projects are composed of office work. Others are composed of worksite work to do at the site of construction. The increase in the investments in civil engineering sector in our country and the taking of construction work abroad have led to an increased need for specialized civil engineers. Therefore, the Chamber of Civil Engineers has become a member of the Council of European Civil Engineers.
