Our northeast Ohio education teacher licensure program focuses on critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity, and through these aspects majors prepare to teach a diverse, dynamic student body. Hiram teacher candidates learn by doing, both out in the field and in campus classrooms, with faculty supporting them as they engage in deep and connected experiences with learners.
The education program is nationally accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP). Individual licensure programs are approved by the Ohio Department of Higher Education.
You will be able to obtain licensure in one of the following areas:
P-5 license – This is valid for teaching pre-kindergarten through grade five. By completing these teacher licensure courses, you will graduate with an elementary education (P-5) major.
Middle childhood license – This license is valid for teaching learners in grades four through nine in the curriculum of focus mentioned in the license. This program includes preparation in areas of concentration in two of the following: reading and language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies. Here, you will graduate with an integrated middle childhood education major.
Adolescence to young adult licenses – This is valid for teaching learners in grades seven through twelve in areas such as integrated language arts, integrated social studies, life sciences, life sciences/chemistry, and physical sciences.
