The foundations of Bezmialem Vakıf University were laid in 1845 by Bezmialem Valide Sultan, the wife of Sultan Mahmud II. It has the distinction of being the most modern, well-equipped institution of its time, providing health and education services on par with the West. Bezmialem, which has continued its services in the field of health without interruption since the day it was founded, transformed into a university in 2010 and transferred its knowledge to the field of academic study.
Bezmialem Vakıf University, which operates under the General Directorate of Foundations of the Republic of Turkiye, provides education to over 3,200 students in the departments of Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Health Sciences Faculties and Health Services Vocational School with 700 academicians who have gained respect in the national and international community.
The institution, which hosts Turkiye's first Phytotherapy Center, which enables the use of plants in the treatment of diseases and the research of their effects, also has Turkiye's first and most comprehensive OSCE Halls and Skills Laboratory, which allows students to work on mannequins prepared according to all kinds of scenarios before encountering real patients.
