The Practical Nursing curriculum spans four semesters over two years, building progressively from foundational sciences to advanced clinical practice. Students develop competencies in client assessment, nursing interventions, pharmacology, health promotion, and professional leadership through a blend of classroom instruction, lab simulations, and clinical placements.
Students examine the normal anatomy and physiology of the human body systems, establishing a solid foundation for more detailed study of pathology and disease processes relevant to nursing practice.
This course introduces systematic and holistic approaches to client assessment across the life span, developing foundational skills in health history taking, physical examination, and clinical documentation.
Students learn to plan safe and competent nursing care based on thorough analysis of available data and evidence-informed practice guidelines, selecting and performing nursing interventions using clinical judgment.
This course covers the mathematical principles and calculations essential for safe medication administration, including dosage calculations, IV flow rates, and drug measurement conversions.
Students explore population health challenges, legal and ethical issues related to consent, the Patient Bill of Rights, and the nurse's role in supporting individuals with chronic and neurocognitive conditions such as COPD, diabetes, and dementia.
Students develop essential skills for nurse leaders including effective coaching, delegating, change management, and quality assurance, while analyzing political influences affecting the health care system and preparing for the transition to graduate nurse practice.
