Interior Architecture (English)

The Department of Interior Architecture (English) at Beykent University offers a rigorous and forward-thinking 4-year undergraduate program designed to train highly skilled, innovative, and internationally competent interior architects. With a curriculum that blends artistic creativity and technical knowledge, the program prepares students to design functional, aesthetic, and sustainable interior environments in line with global design standards.

The primary goal of the program is to educate interior architects who can think critically and creatively, produce original concepts, and apply their ideas through precise technical and planning skills. Emphasizing interdisciplinary collaboration and professional awareness, the program encourages students to explore the cultural, social, technological, and ecological dimensions of interior spaces while also staying current with global trends and practices.

Throughout the program, students receive a solid foundation in theory and practice, beginning with basic design principles and visual communication techniques. As students progress, particularly from the second year onward, they engage in Design Studio courses, which are central to the program. These studios are intensive and project-based, offering hands-on experience in developing interior design concepts, spatial organization, furniture design, lighting, color theory, and material selection. Students also work extensively with computer-aided design (CAD), 3D modeling, and visualization software, preparing them for the technological demands of the profession.

In addition to studio work, the curriculum includes comprehensive coursework in architectural drawing, building technologies, human behavior in space, history of architecture and design, structural systems, and sustainability. These components ensure that students are not only visually and conceptually strong but also technically equipped to address the challenges of interior architecture in diverse settings.

A key feature of the program is its practical training requirement, which includes two separate internships: 20 working days on construction sites and 20 working days in a professional design office. These internships are essential in bridging academic learning with professional practice, providing students with firsthand experience in real-world projects, workplace dynamics, and project management processes.

The language of instruction is English, enabling graduates to work confidently in international contexts and communicate effectively in a global professional environment. Students admitted to the program are required to complete a mandatory English Preparatory Class unless they demonstrate sufficient proficiency through the Level Determination and Proficiency Exam.

Graduates of the Department of Interior Architecture (English) are well-prepared to pursue careers as interior architects, design consultants, space planners, or project coordinators in local and international firms, construction companies, furniture manufacturers, and design studios. They are also well-equipped to continue their academic journey through master’s or doctoral studies in interior architecture or related disciplines.
