Industrial Design (English)

The Department of Industrial Design (English) at Beykent University offers a comprehensive 4-year undergraduate program that prepares students to become innovative and visionary designers in today’s global market. The program is taught entirely in English, with a mandatory English Preparatory Class for all incoming students, unless they demonstrate sufficient proficiency through the university’s Level Determination and Proficiency Exam.

This interdisciplinary program is designed to train industrial designers who are inquisitive, research-oriented, globally aware, and capable of working across disciplines. Students are encouraged to question conventional approaches, follow current trends and technological developments, and develop strong communication and teamwork skills that are essential for success in design professions.

Industrial design is at the intersection of creativity, engineering, and user experience, and the curriculum reflects this by combining theoretical knowledge with hands-on studio work. Students learn how to design everyday objects and products that are manufactured through industrial processes—focusing on improving human comfort, usability, and quality of life.

The program places great emphasis on aesthetic sensibility, functionality, ergonomics, innovation, and sustainability. Students are taught to integrate creative problem-solving with technical understanding, while taking into account user needs, production methods, material selection, branding, social values, and global influences.

Throughout their studies, students engage in practical workshops, CAD and 3D modeling, prototype development, and collaborative projects, gaining experience in the entire product development cycle—from ideation to execution. They also explore the cultural, social, and economic dimensions of design, developing a holistic perspective that prepares them for diverse career opportunities in the design field.

Graduates of this program are equipped with a strong portfolio and the ability to work in areas such as consumer products, automotive design, furniture, home appliances, packaging, electronics, healthcare products, and more. They are also well-prepared to continue their academic journey in master’s or doctoral programs in industrial design or related disciplines, both in Turkey and abroad.
