Beykent University, Turkey
Overview
The Department of Industrial Design at Beykent University offers a dynamic 4-year undergraduate program designed to train creative and forward-thinking designers who can respond to the evolving needs of users, industries, and society. The program is conducted in Turkish and emphasizes both artistic sensitivity and technical competence, preparing students to take an active role in the design of industrially manufactured products that enhance the quality and comfort of everyday life.
Industrial design is a multidisciplinary field that combines functionality, aesthetics, user experience, innovation, and sustainability. The department educates students to become professionals who can question and research independently, follow global trends and technological developments, communicate effectively, and collaborate with teams across various disciplines such as engineering, business, marketing, and sociology.
Throughout the program, students gain a solid foundation in design principles, visual communication, ergonomics, material knowledge, production techniques, and user-centered design. Courses also focus on computer-aided design (CAD), 3D modeling, prototyping, and design history and theory, enabling students to develop both creative and critical thinking skills.
Practical studio work forms the core of the curriculum, allowing students to work on real-world projects and present their ideas through sketches, models, and digital presentations. In addition, students are encouraged to incorporate sustainable thinking, social responsibility, and cultural awareness into their design solutions.
The program also highlights the importance of product identity, branding, and innovation, ensuring that graduates can create designs that are not only functional and user-friendly but also marketable and competitive in global markets.
By the time they graduate, students will have developed a professional portfolio showcasing a range of product designs that demonstrate their ability to blend creativity, practicality, and strategic thinking. They will be well-equipped to pursue careers in industries such as consumer electronics, furniture, household goods, transportation, packaging, medical devices, and design consultancy, or to continue their education in design-related graduate programs.
