Program Overview


The College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences at Ajman University offers a bachelor of pharmacy program (BPharm) that provides students with the scientific background, clinical and technical skills, and moral and ethical attitudes they need to become successful pharmacists. Spanning over 4.5 years of study and composed of 160 credit hours (CH), the program is designed to give students a comprehensive education in all aspects of pharmacy.

The curriculum is divided into four main components: general education, basic sciences and pharmaceutical sciences, clinical sciences, and experiential education. General education courses provide students with the foundation for the program, while the basic and pharmaceutical sciences courses teach the fundamentals of pharmacy practice. Clinical sciences courses focus on the application of the knowledge gained in the basic and pharmaceutical sciences to the treatment and prevention of disease.

The experiential education component is comprised of 24 CH of practical experience that are divided into two parts. The first part consists of 8 CH during the first years of the program, while the second part is made up of 16 CH offered in the last semester of the program. Through a combination of classroom instruction and experiential education, students are provided with the necessary training to become successful pharmacists.


Program Objectives

1. Provide students with the scientific background, clinical and technical skills that they will need to successfully complete their program of study.

2. Provide an educational environment that enables students to acquire the behavior, and moral and ethical attitudes they will need to practice the profession competently and ethically.


Admission Requirements

To be enrolled in a BPharm program, a student should have the followings:

1. High School Requirements (UAE Curriculum)

  • 80% Elite Track
  • 85% Advanced Track

2. English Requirements:

  • A minimum score of EmSAT English of 1100.
  • If EmSAT requirement is unmet, the following tests are accepted:
  • TOEFL: 500 (or 61 in TOEFL iBT or 173 in TOEFL CBT); or
  • IELTS Academics: 5; or
  • Equivalent in other English proficiency tests approved by the MOE will be evaluated.

3. Subject Proficiency EmSAT Requirements

  • Mathematics: EmSATscore of 800.
  • Two science subjects (Physics, Chemistry and Biology): EmSAT score of 800.

Note: If Subject Proficiency EmSAT requirement is unmet, the following options will be accepted:

  • Minimum score of 75% in Math, and 80% in two science subjects (Physics, Chemistry and Biology); or
  • Pass the college admission test in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry/Biology.

 4. Personal Interview

  • Passing a personal interview sets by the College of Pharmacy.
  • Demonstration of good conduct and maturity.

The curriculum is designed and continuously improved with the aim of preparing graduates to be able to effectively deliver pharmaceu­tical services in the private sector as well as in governmental agencies. Pharmacy graduates have the opportunity to work in different placements related to pharmacy profession:

Graduation Requirements

The degree of Bachelor of Phar­macy (BPharm) will be awarded after successful completion of least one hundred and sixty credit hours (160 Credit Hours), including the university requirement cours­es. The period of study normally takes nine regular semesters (4.5 Years). In addition, every student should have field training in community pharmacies and hospital pharmacies of not less than 960 contact hours which is equivalent to 24 credit hours. The minimum cumu­lative grade point average (CGPA) for graduation is 2.0.

 

Tuition fees

The Bachelor of Pharmacy program comprises a total of 160 credit hours, with a tuition fee of 1,575 AED per credit hour, amounting to approximately 56,000 AED per year.
