Overview
Graduate Programs
With about twenty graduate faculty and forty full-time students at both the Master's and Ph.D. levels, the Department of Mathematics and Statistics features the close student-faculty contact and informal atmosphere of a small department while at the same time providing facilities and opportunities comparable to those at larger institutions.
The department offers the following graduate programs:
- M.S. in Applied Mathematics and M.S. in Statistics
- Ph.D. in Mathematics (concentrations in pure mathematics, applied mathematics or statistics)
Computing Facilities
The department has a computer lab (called the Newton Lab) located in UH 1000. The computers in this lab (which can be accessed using your UTAD account) have a number of department specific pieces of software including maple, matlab, python and others. Should projects require more than desktop level machines, faculty and graduate students have access to the Ohio Supercomputer Center.
Library Facilities
The main research library of the University of Toledo is the William S. Carlson Library which houses over 1,600,000 volumes and over 3,000 periodicals. The library has a large and current collection of mathematical texts and monographs and subscribes to over 200 mathematical journals. The University of Toledo Libraries have a fully electronic catalog and circulation service that is available through any terminal on or off campus. The University Library network is connected to a statewide university library network, which makes available to students the collections of all other university and colleges libraries in the State of Ohio and journal articles on demand from the OhioLink electronic journal service. Requests to these libraries can be filed electronically and are usually available within a few days. Also available through the Library network are numerous research databases such as ISI. It should also be noted that one of the major university research libraries in the United States is within an hour's drive at the University of Michigan.
