Paramedic Science BSc

The BSc(Hons) Paramedic Science programme, created in collaboration with South Western Ambulance Service NHS Trust and approved by the Health and Care Professions Council as well as the College of Paramedics, blends rigorous academic teaching with extensive clinical exposure. Learners complete around 1,500 hours of supervised placement across emergency ambulance services, acute hospital departments, and Hazardous Area Response Teams, while participating in simulation drills, role‑play scenarios, and reflective practice sessions. Core modules encompass ECG interpretation, advanced life support, pharmacology, law, ethics, leadership, trauma care, paediatric and geriatric emergency management, and evidence‑based practice, all delivered by registered paramedic academics. Assessment employs a variety of methods including coursework, case analyses, OSCEs, and oral examinations to evaluate competence. The curriculum emphasises development of decision‑making, interpersonal communication, and critical thinking abilities required for high‑pressure pre‑hospital environments, preparing graduates for professional registration and diverse career pathways within emergency and urgent care sectors.
