The Dentistry program at the University of Latvia is a five-year, second-cycle professional higher education program classified at EQF Level 7, equivalent to a master's degree. Curriculum and Modules

Biomedical Sciences Foundation

Covers cell biology, inorganic and organic chemistry, basics of biochemistry, histology, physiology, medical embryology, and hereditary diseases. This foundational module builds the essential scientific knowledge required for understanding human biology and oral health.

Medical Sciences and Pathology

50 ECTS

Includes general pathology, pharmacology, immunology, microbiology, public health, and epidemiology. Students develop an understanding of disease mechanisms, drug interactions, and population-level health considerations relevant to dental practice.

Oral Biology and Dental Sciences

50 ECTS

Focuses on oral anatomy, oral physiology, dental biomaterials, oral and maxillofacial radiology, and oral pathology. Students gain detailed knowledge of the structure and function of oral and dental tissues and related structures of the head and neck.

Preventive and Restorative Dentistry

50 ECTS

Covers preventive dentistry, oral health promotion, cariology, endodontology, periodontology, and prosthetics. Students learn diagnostic and treatment planning skills, as well as techniques for restoring tooth shape, function, and aesthetics.

Specialized Clinical Dentistry

46.5 ECTS

Encompasses orthodontics, oral surgery and pain control, oral medicine, pediatric dentistry, gerodontology, and stomatognathic function. Students develop specialized competencies across the full range of dental disciplines.

Clinical Practice and Professional Development

43.5 ECTS

Includes supervised clinical practice in the 7th and 10th semesters, propaedeutics of dentistry, diagnostics and treatment planning, professional ethics, and healthcare establishment and management. Students treat real patients under the supervision of clinical instructors.

Admission Requirements

Admission to the Dentistry program at the University of Latvia is competitive, with a limited number of study places available for international students.
