German Studies

The university offers: German Studies with focus on literature and German Studies with focus on language. the one with focus in literature include literature- and language-related content is studied in parallel during the first two years of the program, including introductory modules from both disciplines. Students majoring in literature study modules such as "Periods and Institutional Contexts of Literature" and "Selected Issues in Literary Studies." Depending on the minor combination (with/without a German Studies major with a language focus), students can choose between the modules "Introduction to Literary and Cultural Theory" and "German Language and Literary History," as well as between "Major Works of Early German Literature" and "Major Works of Modern German Literature." The "Literary Education and Cultural Practice" module, in the third year of study, provides practical experience with possible career fields in the humanities. The career-oriented internship, lasting at least six weeks, is completed as a block internship during the lecture-free period and must be completed by the end of the fifth semester.  And, the on with a focus on language includes language and literature-related content is studied in parallel during the first two years of the program, including introductory modules from both disciplines. Students majoring in language majors study the modules "Word and Sentence," "Applied Linguistics," "Text and Conversation," and "Communication and Grammar." Depending on the minor combination (with or without a German Studies major with a language focus), students can choose between the modules "Language Theory and Philosophy of Language" and "German Language and Literature History" to develop their own individual focus. The career-oriented internship, which lasts at least six weeks, is completed as a block internship during the semester break and must be completed by the end of the fifth semester.
