Architecture Graduate
Matera Campus, Italy
Overview
The program's objective is to develop professionals who combine specific architectural and urban planning design skills with mastery of the tools related to the construction feasibility of the project, enabling them to competently oversee its proper execution from an aesthetic, functional, and technical-economic perspective. Therefore, a qualitative integration of historical-critical training with scientific expertise is implemented, following a teaching approach that views design as a process of synthesis, thus equipping this professional with full qualifications to operate in the field of architectural and urban planning, including at the European level.
The program focuses on design workshops (one per year) with a single exam.
Each workshop consists of multiple subjects (SSD): 'Architectural Composition' is a constant element, while the others are chosen to produce an integrated project each year that is increasingly complete and technically refined. The different disciplinary combinations in the workshop sequence are therefore determined by the type and complexity of the issues addressed, so that the synthesis design workshop in the fifth year can represent a final learning experience. The design workshops are supported by single-subject courses that cover core SSDs and related and complementary SSDs.
Graduates of the master's degree programs must:
• have in-depth knowledge of the history of architecture and construction, the tools and forms of representation, the theoretical-scientific as well as methodological-operational aspects of mathematics and other basic sciences, and be able to use this knowledge to thoroughly interpret and describe complex architectural problems that require an interdisciplinary approach, particularly focusing on the relationship between the city and architecture with nature and the environment;
• have a thorough understanding of the theoretical and scientific aspects, as well as the methodological and operational aspects, of the disciplinary fields characterizing the chosen program of study and be able to use this knowledge to identify, formulate, and solve, even innovatively, architectural and urban problems that require an interdisciplinary approach, oriented towards building and urban design with techniques attentive to sustainable development; have knowledge of business organization (corporate culture) and professional ethics, with particular attention to the relationship between economics and ecology (eco-development-urban ecosystem).
In summary, the specific objective of the degree program is to create professionals who can operate fully at the European level; who are able to design with a view to sustainable development, with knowledge of architecture and urban planning, and mastery of the tools relating to the construction feasibility of the project, conceived in a process of complete synthesis, from an aesthetic, scientific, and technical-economic perspective.
