Program Overview: Chemical Laboratory Technician at Seneca Polytechnic

In this two-year diploma program, you will benefit from practical training and learn the essential principles and techniques used in the biochemical sciences. You will gain hands-on experience needed to perform experiments and determinations with the precision required in a broad range of industries.

The program covers a broad range of topics, including organic and analytical chemistry, biochemistry, industrial microbiology, as well as pharmaceutical and instrumental methods. You will receive hands-on training in the proper care and use of laboratory apparatus for wet and instrumental methods.

This program shares a common first year with the three-year Biotechnology Advanced, Chemical Engineering Technology, and Chemical Laboratory Technology – Pharmaceutical programs. You can transfer to these programs after the second semester or upon graduation, giving you flexible academic pathways.

Curriculum & Modules

The Chemical Laboratory Technician curriculum is designed to build your competency from foundational chemistry concepts to advanced instrumental analysis over four semesters. You will develop practical laboratory skills alongside theoretical knowledge, preparing you for diverse roles in chemical and biochemical industries.

General Chemistry

Covers fundamental chemical principles including atomic structure, bonding, stoichiometry, and solutions. Provides the foundational knowledge required for all subsequent chemistry courses in the program.

Analytical Chemistry

Focuses on quantitative and qualitative analysis techniques including titrations, gravimetric analysis, and spectrophotometry. Students learn to apply prescribed laboratory procedures for manual and instrumental quantitative analysis.

Organic Chemistry

Explores the structure, properties, and reactions of organic compounds. Emphasizes laboratory techniques for synthesis, purification, and identification of organic substances relevant to industrial applications.

Biochemistry
