Overview
Sociology is the scientific study of society, human behavior, and the complex web of relationships and structures that shape our everyday lives. Rooted in the belief that individuals do not exist in isolation but are deeply influenced by the institutions, cultural norms, and social systems that surround them, sociology seeks to understand both the stability and the change within societies.
The Bachelor’s program in Sociology equips students with a deep understanding of how social forces such as race, class, gender, ethnicity, religion, and sexuality shape personal identities, group dynamics, and societal outcomes. Through coursework, students explore key sociological theories, research methods, and contemporary issues such as globalization, urbanization, migration, crime, family dynamics, and systemic inequality.
A strong emphasis is placed on developing critical thinking, analytical, and research skills, allowing students to investigate social issues and interpret data in meaningful ways. Students are encouraged to participate in internships, community-based projects, or research with faculty to apply their knowledge to real-world settings.
Sociology not only helps students understand the world around them—it also empowers them to engage with it. Whether through community advocacy, policy development, social research, or education, graduates are well-prepared to contribute to social transformation and support historically marginalized communities. Career paths include roles in social services, public policy, nonprofit organizations, education, law, and beyond, or further study in graduate and professional programs.
