Why Study Finance?
Studying finance will introduce you to the ways that organizations and corporations make monetary decisions in order to maximize value for their shareholders. This critical function for all for-profit, nonprofit, and government industries requires individuals who think critically, listen carefully, and effectively analyze challenging situations. You’ll be prepared for a career in this fast-paced world, ready to apply the appropriate calculations to real-life finance problems at the personal and organizational levels.
Business Student Learning Outcomes
- Students will apply knowledge of basic economic principles, marketing principles, communication, legal issues, operations management and statistics, accounting, management, leadership, information technology, nonprofit management principles, strategy and financial principles as they apply to the contemporary business and nonprofit environment.
- Students will identify ethical issues existing in the workplace and apply relevant ethical standards and frameworks for their prevention and/or resolution.
- Students will demonstrate professional business communication using different modalities.
Program Requirements
Students completing the requirements for a bachelor of science (BS) degree in business and economics with a concentration in finance will be prepared to enter the business and nonprofit world as ethical leaders and competent analysts, with superior critical thinking and communication skills for professional settings.
Major Requirements
66 hours of major coursework
120 total credits for graduation
Students are required to complete an internship (BSE 4970) or to provide documentation of other work experience
