Why study this course?
This Secondary Computer Science with ICT course leads to Qualified Teacher Status and to the Master’s Level PGCE qualification. It prepares you to teach 11 to 16-year-olds and where possible, we also give you the chance to gain experience in the 16 to 18 age range.
We have strong partnerships with a number of schools across London and our trainees attain high results, with almost 100% of our students passing the course.

This course covers both computer science and ICT skills, essential for a career in teaching. Computing in schools nowadays teaches pupils about programming as well as use of information technology software. This course will give you a combination of the new approaches with a more traditional ICT approach, allowing for deeper learning and enabling young people to become the innovators of the future.
You’ll learn to equip pupils with a strong command of the basics of computer science and ICT and to develop their interest in the latest technologies and the many potential career paths offered through study of this subject. You will explore the best way to teach pupils to use technology ethically and responsively. We’ll help you to develop a range of teaching styles and activities to engage your students.
With a national shortage of computer science teachers but a need for computing skills to be taught in secondary schools, you’ll be qualifying during an exciting time for the profession.
By learning to teach in London, you’ll experience teaching in diverse and multicultural schools, giving you good experience to take into your professional career as a teacher.
The teacher training programme at London Met is well-established and offers extensive training, professional and pastoral support, plus a school mentor to help you as you progress to gaining Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
A Department of Education (DfE) bursary is available for this course.
Please be aware that this is a full-time course with in-school placements and a full programme of study/work.
