Translation Studies (Turkish) - Thesis Program
Tuzla Campus, Turkey
Overview
Purpose of the Program
Istanbul Okan University Translation Studies MA Program primarily aims to train researchers with the scientific knowledge and equipment needed by translation studies or translation and interpretation departments in our country. Courses in our program are given by expert faculty members who have publications in national or international scientific journals.
Structure of the Program
Okan University Translation Studies MA Program offers postgraduate education to students who aim to conduct translation research with contemporary paradigms in the field of Translation Studies in Turkey and abroad.
The program is open not only to graduates of translation and interpretation but also to graduates from various disciplines such as natural sciences, social sciences or engineering programs who have a strong interest in translation and research.
The duration of the program is two years. In the first year, students enroll in seven courses worth 21 local credits (120 ECTS) covering translation theory, translation history, translation criticism and applications in their fields of expertise. In the second year, they conduct a qualified thesis research that will enable them to approach their subject from the functional and descriptive perspective of Translation Studies.
The program only works with the Turkish-English language pair in practice courses. Therefore, Turkish students are expected to have English, and international students are expected to have both Turkish and English at least at B2 level. Students must document their language proficiency with national or international exams accepted by Okan University.
In addition to the above requirements, since the department has faculty members who conduct translation research in the Russian, Chinese and Arabic traditions, students also have the opportunity to research translation activities between Turkish and these languages/cultures.
Content of the Program
The Thesis Program consists of a total course load of 21 credits (7 courses) and a non-credit master's thesis.
