Automotive Mechatronics and Smart Vehicles (English) - Thesis Program
Tuzla Campus, Turkey
Overview
Purpose of the Program
Although it is known that the Automotive Industry generally works on its own fields such as engine, chassis, body and power transmission, it can be claimed that it is greatly affected by two factors in particular.
The first factor is the continuous development of information technology . Today's vehicles are equipped with communication and computer techniques using nanotechnology and microelectronics. These systems provide significant support opportunities to the vehicle driver. These opportunities are ESP (electronic stability program), night vision assistant, cruise control, navigation, active suspension control, passenger and pedestrian safety measures, and even fatigue driver detection. Recent research and development studies have focused on Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V), Vehicle-to-Infrastructure (V2I) communication and driverless (autonomous) vehicle behavior.
The second factor affecting the automotive industry is the greenhouse gas emissions of vehicles and their negative effects on global warming. It is known that research and development on electric and hybrid electric vehicles, which have positive features in terms of low greenhouse gas emissions, has been ongoing for some time and a few commercial applications have also started. It is understood that electric vehicles will be more common in the market in a short time, production lines will be established in factories and there will be a need for trained manpower in this field.
There is a need for engineers who are competent in the new subjects summarized above, equipped with the technical knowledge needed by the sector, researchers and experts in their fields. In order to meet this need, a master's program titled ' Automotive Mechatronics and Intelligent Vehicles ' has been prepared at the Istanbul OKAN University Institute of Science. As it is known, almost all of the automotive companies in Turkey are international. Local and foreign engineers work together in the design process of the vehicles. For this reason, English is widely used in automotive factories and especially in R&D studies. This is the reason why the course program is prepared in English.
The aim of this master's programme is summarized as follows:
- To implement a program that will prepare graduate students for academic and research careers,
- To create an infrastructure of academics of the future who will seek solutions to fundamental problems in their field of education and expand the horizons of knowledge of humanity,
- To be a pioneer in the field of Automotive Mechatronics and Smart Vehicles,
- Creating new opportunities in education and research,
- To renew engineers who have worked in industrial establishments for a long time and whose knowledge has become outdated, with this program,
- To participate in R&D projects of the automotive industry and contribute to its competitiveness.
Structure of the Program
Students who have obtained a minimum of 55 level from ALES exam conducted by ÖSYM and have undergraduate degrees in Automotive Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Energy Engineering can be accepted to the Automotive Mechatronics and Intelligent Vehicles Master's Program offered without thesis in English. In addition, graduates of Computer Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, and Electrical and Electronics Engineering Undergraduate Programs can also follow the main program on condition that they successfully complete the courses within the framework of the 'Scientific Preparation Program' specified below.
Considering that this program is in English, candidates are required to have received a minimum score of 60 or equivalent in KPDS and similar national and international exams at the time of admission.
The courses in the program, each with a total of 3 credits, are grouped under two headings as Compulsory Courses and Elective Courses. Students must have completed at least 21 credits of courses and a Master's Thesis by the time they graduate.
