Humber Polytechnic's Computer Systems Technician – Information Technology Infrastructure and Services diploma program prepares you for careers in the information and communications technology (ICT) sector. You will build a strong foundation in IT infrastructure, wired and wireless network devices, operating systems, programming, scripting, and the services provided by servers and public cloud vendors.

The curriculum prepares you for the role of a system administrator, covering installation, configuration, and management of various operating systems including Microsoft servers and different distributions of Linux. You will develop hands-on skills working with virtualization tools, network infrastructure, and security essentials, while also learning about data centre technologies that support small- and medium-sized businesses.

Working with public cloud infrastructure, you will build your skills in integrating services in public cloud environments with organizational infrastructure. The program emphasizes network and data systems security, and group projects help you develop essential customer service, interpersonal communication, and teamwork skills valued by employers in the Greater Toronto Area and beyond.

Curriculum and Modules

The program spans four semesters and combines lectures with hands-on laboratory sessions. You will progress from foundational hardware and networking concepts to advanced system administration, cloud computing, and cybersecurity topics, building the practical skills demanded by today's ICT employers.

Digital Electronics Fundamentals

Acquire a solid foundation in digital electronics through lectures and hands-on lab sessions, covering gates, binary numbers, flip-flops, counters, display devices, and applications of Boolean algebra.

Computer Hardware and Operating Systems

Gain a comprehensive understanding of the Windows operating system, learning to install and configure an OS, manage the interface, configure hardware and software settings, troubleshoot problems, and optimize system performance.

Networking and Infrastructure

Learn the foundations of organizational network design, including wired and wireless network devices, basic configuration, protocols, and network infrastructure management.

System Administration (Microsoft and Linux)

Prepare for the system administrator role through installation, configuration, and management of various operating systems including Microsoft servers and different distributions of Linux.

Cloud Computing and Virtualization
