Hartwick College is a private, non-denominational liberal arts and sciences college located in Oneonta, New York, in the northern foothills of the Catskill Mountains. Founded in 1797 through the will of Lutheran minister John Christopher Hartwick, it originated as Hartwick Seminary — the first Lutheran seminary in the United States. The college transitioned into a four-year liberal arts institution in the late 1920s and relocated to its current hilltop campus in Oneonta in 1928.

Today, Hartwick offers more than 45 courses of study leading to Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degrees, along with pre-professional programs in law, medicine, engineering, and allied health. The college is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education and brands itself as The Life Balance College, integrating academic, physical, professional, and financial well-being into the student experience. The college's signature J Term in January provides immersive off-campus and international learning experiences.

Hartwick College implemented a landmark tuition reset beginning in fall 2025, dramatically lowering its sticker price to improve transparency. As a private institution, tuition is the same for all students regardless of state residency. Students may also qualify for up to USD 10,000 in annual merit scholarships.
