International Relations (English)
Beykent University, Turkey
Overview
The Department of International Relations offers a comprehensive and dynamic 4-year undergraduate program designed to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and global perspective necessary to navigate and influence the increasingly complex landscape of international affairs. The program aims to produce strategically minded, analytically skilled, and socially responsible graduates who can assess political, economic, and social developments from a broad and informed perspective.
Students in this program explore a wide range of topics, including international politics, diplomacy, global governance, international law, foreign policy analysis, political economy, regional studies, conflict resolution, and human rights. The curriculum integrates theoretical frameworks with real-world case studies, helping students to understand and critically evaluate global trends, power dynamics, and the roles of states, international organizations, and non-state actors in shaping world events.
One of the core strengths of the program is its focus on strategic decision-making and analytical thinking, encouraging students to develop solutions to global challenges and contribute meaningfully to both national and international dialogues. Through research projects, policy papers, presentations, and simulations such as Model United Nations, students build competencies in critical analysis, negotiation, public speaking, and strategic communication.
The language of instruction is English, ensuring that graduates are not only academically proficient but also linguistically equipped to work in international and multicultural environments. An English Preparatory Class is mandatory, although students who successfully pass the Level Determination and Proficiency Exam may begin their first year without attending the preparatory year. This strong emphasis on English fluency enhances students’ competitiveness in both local and international job markets.
In addition to the academic curriculum, students benefit from internships, international exchange opportunities, academic conferences, and guest lectures by diplomats, scholars, and policy experts, all of which expose them to diverse viewpoints and professional experiences. The department also promotes democratic values, civic engagement, and ethical leadership—preparing students to become not only competent professionals but also informed and responsible global citizens.
Graduates of the International Relations program pursue careers in a wide array of fields including diplomacy, international organizations, governmental and non-governmental organizations (NGOs), multinational companies, media, academia, and research institutions. Many also continue their education in prestigious graduate programs around the world, specializing in international relations, political science, public policy, and related disciplines.
Ultimately, the Department of International Relations fosters a learning environment that challenges students to think globally, act ethically, and engage with the world as change-makers and thought leaders.
