The Bachelor of Screen and Stage (Acting) at the Australian Performing Arts Conservatory (APAC) is a practice-led degree developed from APAC's highly successful Advanced Diploma, which has been offered for over twenty-five years and has produced graduates with an impressive range of national and international industry achievements. Situated in the heart of Brisbane's CBD, this program equips you with the skills and tools needed for film and stage work all over the world.

From movement, voice and speech, through to stage combat, screen acting, audition skills, and exciting new works, this degree covers every dimension of the actor's craft. You will have the opportunity to develop your individual voice and become a truly independent artist, exploring solo and ensemble work while collaborating with students from APAC's Screen Production program to build a professional-quality show reel.

Delivered in a fast-track format over two years (equivalent to three years full-time), the program features three trimesters per year with four units per trimester. All instruction is delivered by active industry professionals in purpose-built facilities featuring film studios, performance spaces, rehearsal rooms, and editing suites.

Curriculum and Modules

The Bachelor of Screen and Stage (Acting) requires the completion of 240 credit points, comprising 70 credit points of core units and 170 credit points of major units. The curriculum balances academic rigour with practical professional relevance, integrating voice, movement, script analysis, and performance skills with critical analysis, contextual awareness, and independent research across six trimesters.

Voice Production and Speech

Core Unit

Develop vocal techniques for clarity, projection, and expression across stage and screen contexts. This module covers dialect work, speech patterns, and the Linklater voice method to build a versatile vocal instrument.

Physical Storytelling and Movement

Major Unit

Explore body awareness, physical characterisation, and movement techniques essential for both stage and screen performance. Training includes the Suzuki actor training method and contemporary movement practices.

Screen Acting and Camera Technique

Major Unit

Gain foundational and advanced skills specific to acting for the camera, including shot awareness, hitting marks, and adjusting performance for different screen formats. Students collaborate with Screen Production students to create professional-quality filmed scenes.

Staged Combat: Unarmed and Swordplay

Major Unit

An exclusive APAC curriculum offering covering staged unarmed combat and staged swordplay techniques. You will learn safe, dynamic fight choreography for both theatrical and screen productions.

Script Analysis and Improvisation

Core Unit

Develop practical skills in dissecting and interpreting scripts for performance, alongside improvisation techniques that build spontaneity, scene-building ability, and creative storytelling instincts.

Capstone Performance Project

Major Unit

Feature in an original APAC film alongside a professional film crew and earn an IMDb credit. This capstone integrates all skills developed throughout the program in a culminating professional production experience.

Admission Requirements

Entry into the Bachelor of Screen and Stage (Acting) is based on academic qualifications and a demonstrated aptitude for performance through an audition process. APAC welcomes both domestic and international applicants, and no ATAR score is required. All applications and inquiries are handled through Uni4Edu.
