There are three modules per semester in full-time mode, with specialist options allowing you to tailor your studies to your career interests.

Planning, Politics and Theory

Place making is central to successful spatial planning. This module explores principles and processes for creating high-quality and inclusive places, requiring students to analyse an area of London and prepare, visualise, and justify ideas for its future development.

Planning Law in Practice

20 credits

This module deals in depth with the legal framework for the planning and development of land in England, providing essential knowledge of the statutory and regulatory context within which planners operate professionally.

Sustainable Places

20 credits

Focusing on sustainability in the built and natural environment, this module includes an EU field study visit and examines how planning can promote sustainable development outcomes across different scales and contexts.

Planning in London

20 credits

Using London as a case study, this module explores the unique planning challenges and opportunities presented by one of the world's largest and most complex cities, covering governance, policy, and development pressures.

Dissertation

60 credits

The dissertation is the capstone component of the MA, requiring you to undertake independent empirical research on a planning topic of your choice. Students are encouraged to engage with real planning issues and organisations for their research.
