Universität Hamburg—University of Excellence presented a compelling vision of flagship university: top-level research through collaboration in the Hamburg Metropolitan Region and internationally. The University of Hamburg has achieved extraordinary success in the Excellence Strategy of the Federal and State Governments, a funding competition for top-level university research in Germany. Four clusters of excellence have been funded since 2019. In these research alliances, researchers investigate issues in astrophysics, climate research, and photon science and study written artifacts.In our clusters of excellence, researchers tackle the big questions and challenges of our time, collaborating with partner institutions to develop answers and solutions. They pursue new topics and methodologies and benefit from the outstanding expertise of various disciplines that are systematically brought together in the clusters.
