Baccalauréat en génie de l'environnement (programme coopératif)

This program prepares students for employment as environmental engineers by providing technical expertise, problem-solving skills, and a strong understanding of environmental issues to create sustainable solutions. Students engage in design courses starting from the first year to foster creative thinking and continue developing problem-solving skills throughout the program. The first two years build a foundation in basic sciences, engineering tools, and environmental issues, while the final two years focus on in-depth knowledge of environmental engineering. Students also gain strong communication skills and the ability to work across various disciplines, including resource-based industries, government departments, research organizations, and environmental engineering consulting. Example projects include designing processes for clean drinking water in northern communities, treating municipal or industrial wastewater, recovering energy from waste, cleaning contaminated soil, developing flood control plans, and mapping groundwater flow and contaminant transport. Graduates can pursue careers such as environmental engineer, pollution control engineer, municipal engineer, water resources engineer, or reclamation engineer, and may work in the private sector, government agencies, or start their own consultancy. The Co-Op provides industry experience. Students develop specialized knowledge in controlling and remedying water, air, and soil pollution, understanding contaminant movement and impacts on human health, solid waste management, mine waste disposal, geo-environmental engineering, and adapting to climate change.
