Sociology MA

The Master's program offers a research-oriented program that focuses on current issues and central topics in sociology. The program emphasizes small seminar groups and personal supervision, allowing you to study topics such as media and communication, inequality, politics and protest, and social and societal theory in depth. Through an international comparative perspective, you will develop a nuanced understanding of the role of mass media and digital communication in shaping public space and personal self-expression, political mobilization and social movements, social inequality, and sociological perspectives on culture, communication and social networks.

Last but not least, you will acquire valuable methodological skills: Unlike many other M.A. programs, the M.A. in Sociology incorporates a wide range of advanced research methods, including qualitative, quantitative and computational approaches. Through an intensive project seminar and a six-month thesis, you will be directly involved in ongoing sociological research and encouraged to reflect on social developments. Participation in sociological research colloquia also offers the opportunity to get involved in sociological debates and contribute to the development of the discipline.
