Art History

The discipline also examines epochs and genres ranging from the Middles Ages to the modern period to contemporary art. Examination of artworks‘ depicted contents and understanding the political, social and cultural framework at the time and location of their creation also play an important role in the program. In addition, the degree program focuses on the interpretation of artworks considering aesthetic, historical, sociological or economic aspects, which also include knowledge of artists’ biographies and artistic techniques. The program also covers the history of art history as well as its methodologies and institutions.

Besides working with texts and visual media, the program offers a strong focus on studying objects on site through tutorials before original artworks or on field trips.
