M.Sc. Psychology & Management (German/English)
Dortmund Campus, Germany
Overview
The M.Sc. Psychology & Management (German/English) program at ISM is an interdisciplinary and internationally oriented Master’s degree designed for students who want to understand and influence human behavior in business contexts. By combining the analytical rigor of psychology with the strategic insight of management, this program prepares graduates for leadership roles in human resources, organizational development, consulting, marketing, and change management.
During the first semester, students receive a strong foundational education in applied psychology, with a focus on understanding individual and group behavior in professional environments. Courses cover key areas such as cognitive and social psychology, organizational behavior, and business psychology fundamentals, equipping students with the theoretical tools to analyze psychological processes in everyday business situations. This semester also integrates core business administration subjects, ensuring students build a well-rounded understanding of economic and managerial principles.
In the second semester, students begin to specialize based on their interests and career aspirations. Topics include psychological diagnostics and personnel selection, occupational health management, motivational strategies, and psychological intervention methods in corporate settings. The curriculum also emphasizes the development of soft skills, such as emotional intelligence, negotiation, conflict resolution, and intercultural communication—skills that are increasingly critical in globalized work environments.
Throughout the program, ISM encourages students to apply theory to practice through case studies, consulting projects, and interactive seminars. Guest lectures by professionals from the fields of psychology and business give students the opportunity to learn from real-world experiences and explore current trends and challenges.
A key highlight of the program is the semester abroad in the third semester, where students attend one of ISM’s numerous international partner universities. This experience deepens students’ global perspective, enhances their cross-cultural communication skills, and allows them to study specialized topics offered by the host institution. The International Office at ISM provides guidance and support throughout the preparation and application process, ensuring a seamless academic exchange.
The program culminates in the fourth semester with a practice-oriented Master’s thesis, often developed in collaboration with a company. This final project allows students to conduct in-depth research on a real-world psychological or managerial issue, applying both empirical methods and strategic thinking. It represents a significant opportunity to contribute to professional practice while preparing for a smooth transition into the job market.
Graduates of the M.Sc. Psychology & Management program receive 120 ECTS credits and are well-equipped to pursue careers in areas such as human resource management, organizational development, market research, corporate training, employee well-being, and strategic consulting. The program's unique combination of psychology and business, along with its international focus, makes it an ideal choice for those aiming to shape the human side of modern organizations in both national and international contexts.
