Program Overview

The Sociology and Social Work program at Ajman University combines two disciplines into one, offering students a multitude of career opportunities in research institutions, government entities, and social welfare organizations. Graduates can also work as experts and consultants for policymakers and social policy administrators. Additionally, the program is accredited locally and internationally by the Hcéres—the High Council for Evaluation of Research and Higher Education in France—adding significant value to the degree.

Program Highlights

About the Department

Established in 2011, the Department of Sociology offers a unique program in the UAE that combines Sociology and Social Work. The program aligns with societal needs, providing a critical field that offers numerous career opportunities. The program currently has approximately 500 enrolled students and over 1,000 graduates from more than 15 nationalities. It is delivered by a competent faculty team representing over seven nationalities with diverse academic credentials.

Accredited both locally by the Ministry of Education and internationally by Hcéres, the program ranks 8th in the Middle East and North Africa region. It adopts advanced global teaching strategies and includes 240 hours of practical training in social institutions. Additionally, the program features a modern social clinic to refine students' skills both theoretically and practically, preparing them for future career opportunities.

To prepare graduates in Sociology and Social Work, equipped with scientific knowledge, expertise, and the skills required to address social problems and leverage scientific research to serve society.

Objectives

1. Introduce the theoretical foundations of Sociology and Social Work, enabling students to understand the principles and methodologies of the discipline.
2. Familiarize students with various fields in Sociology and Social Work, highlighting the role of sociologists and social workers in these areas and the nature of their work.
3. Prepare leaders in social work to serve in different social and welfare institutions and contribute to designing and implementing social welfare policies and research.
4. Train students to diagnose and solve social problems using critical thinking.
5. Foster a spirit of scientific research and develop proficiency in writing research papers in Sociology and Social Work, adhering to scientific research methodologies.

Local Accreditation

Ajman University is a licensed educational institution by the Ministry of Education, and all its programs are accredited by the Commission for Academic Accreditation and the Ministry of Education in the UAE.

Tuition fees

The Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Social Work program comprises a total of 126 credit hours, with a tuition fee of 1,125 AED per credit hour, amounting to approximately 35,437 AED per year.
