Master of Science in Management and Industrial Systems Engineering (MISE)
University of Trento
Industrial & Systems Engineering / Engineering Management
Program Overview: Management and Industrial Systems Engineering
The Master's Degree in Management and Industrial Systems Engineering (MISE) at the University of Trento prepares you to effectively manage and control the processes that characterise the new production paradigm and the associated industrial revolution. You will develop solid skills in both technical disciplines and the management of systemic complexity in modern industry, including economic-organisational aspects, environmental sustainability, and digital technologies.
The program trains engineers with a holistic and integrated vision of industrial problems rather than an approach focused on single aspects or specific technologies. Course content is aligned with the most recent developments in academic and industrial research that are revolutionising modern industrial systems, from product customisation to environmental sustainability, and from digitalisation of industrial plants to quality and safety of production systems.
Fully taught in English with students from around the world, the MISE program combines traditional lectures with workshops, laboratory experiences, real-world projects, and internships. The multicultural classroom environment and limited class sizes foster direct interaction, collaborative teamwork, and a dynamic learning experience that prepares you for leadership roles in global industrial contexts.
Key Program Highlights
- Two specialisation tracks in the second year: Design and Sustainability or Management and Digitalisation
- Access to the EIT Manufacturing Master School, the European excellence network for manufacturing innovation
- Extensive network of partner universities across Europe with numerous study abroad opportunities
- Small class sizes enabling direct interaction with internationally experienced faculty and hands-on project work
Curriculum and Modules
The MISE curriculum is structured across two years totalling 120 ECTS. The first year provides a shared foundation in management and industrial systems engineering disciplines, while the second year allows you to specialise through one of two curricula: Design and Sustainability or Management and Digitalisation. The program concludes with an original thesis written in English.
Industrial Systems Management
9 ECTSCovers the fundamentals of managing complex industrial production and logistics systems, including planning, scheduling, and optimisation of manufacturing processes within modern industrial environments.
Operations Research and Decision Support
9 ECTSFocuses on modern quantitative techniques and mathematical models to support decision-making processes in industrial contexts, including linear programming, simulation, and optimisation methods.
Digital Technologies for Industry
9 ECTSExplores the main digital technologies underpinning the current industrial revolution, including artificial intelligence, Internet of Things tools, and industrial process optimisation through digital transformation.
Innovation Management and Strategy
6 ECTSDevelops your ability to apply methodologies for the promotion and management of innovation within industrial organisations, covering technology strategy, R&D management, and innovation ecosystems.
