The Heavy Equipment and Truck and Transport Technician certificate program at Saskatchewan Polytechnic gives you basic training in two high-demand mechanical trades at once. Curriculum and Course Modules
The Heavy Equipment and Truck and Transport Technician program emphasizes practical, hands-on learning combined with essential classroom instruction. You will gain training across a comprehensive range of mechanical systems found in heavy equipment and transport vehicles, preparing you for entry-level positions in the skilled trades.
Learn to maintain and repair gas and diesel engines, fuel injection systems, emissions controls, transmissions, and drivetrains used in heavy equipment and transport vehicles.
Study fundamentals of electricity, starting and charging circuits, wiring, batteries, hydraulic pumps, and actuators. Diagnose and repair electrical and hydraulic faults across various equipment types.
Cover air-operated braking systems including anti-lock braking, traction and stability control systems, as well as steering and suspension repair and maintenance for vehicle safety.
Develop skills in servicing and repairing drivetrain components including bearings, seals, clutches, transmissions, differentials, and final drives found in heavy equipment and transport vehicles.
Cover preventative maintenance programs on both highway and off-road equipment, hoisting and rigging techniques, shop equipment and tool use, as well as foundational welding skills.
