The college provides more than 40 certificate, diploma, degree, trades, and university transfer programs across diverse disciplines including Arts, Science, Education, Business, Health, and Trades and Technology. Students can complete bachelor's degrees in nursing, education, and business through collaborative agreements with the University of Calgary and Mount Royal University.

With approximately 2,500 students on its main Medicine Hat campus and an additional 200 at the Brooks Campus, MHC offers some of the lowest student-to-instructor ratios in Alberta.   • 1965: Medicine Hat Junior College opens its doors to 97 full-time and 11 part-time students at Medicine Hat High School.
  • 1969: The Conservatory of Music and Dance is established, and 'Junior' is dropped from the college name under the Colleges Act of Alberta.
