Founded in 1997 by the Common Knowledge Society Regional Branch in Wrocław, DSW University of Lower Silesia (Uniwersytet Dolnośląski DSW) has grown into one of the most important private academic centers in the Lower Silesia region. The university was established with a vision of promoting innovative and interdisciplinary education, particularly in social sciences, humanities, and education.

As one of the few non-public universities in Poland with full academic rights, DSW holds the authority to confer doctoral and postdoctoral degrees. The university has achieved Category A in scientific evaluation for Pedagogy and Social Communication and Media Studies, confirming its high academic standing among both public and private institutions in Poland.

DSW University is a member of the WSB-DSW Merito Research Federation, the first scientific federation in Poland established under the Law on Higher Education and Science of 2018.
