Introduction
The Department of Sociology, established in 2011 within the College of Humanities and Sciences at Ajman University, strives to achieve prominence both locally and regionally through academic accreditation within and beyond the UAE. The department plays a vital role in the UAE's higher education landscape, preparing generations equipped to plan for the future, innovate, and contribute to sustainable development. By aligning with the latest national trends and institutional priorities, the department enhances its students' competitiveness in the labor market.
In August 2024, the department launched the Master of Digital Sociology program, which received initial accreditation. This initiative reflects the department’s commitment to advancing academic programs that align with student aspirations, societal needs, and labor market demands.
This program focuses on examining social phenomena and interactions arising in the digital world. It explores the impact of technology and digital communication on social relations and utilizes digital data analysis from platforms, websites, and applications. Topics include social media interactions, the influence of digital media on culture and identity, virtual communities, and the societal impacts of algorithms and big data. Graduates are empowered to address digital transformations and their cultural implications, contributing to public policies, social planning, and enhancing digital social interactions.

To prepare distinguished graduates in digital sociology with the knowledge, experience, and skills to study, analyze, and address the challenges of the digital society. The program emphasizes the use of scientific research to serve society, analyze big data, and anticipate future trends.
Program Objectives
The Master's program in Digital Sociology aims to:
- Equip students with knowledge and skills to understand and analyze social phenomena in the digital context.
- Provide a solid foundation in digital sociology theories and methodologies for analyzing contemporary social issues.
- Foster critical and analytical thinking to identify challenges arising from digital phenomena.
- Prepare students to lead teams addressing digital issues and societal impacts.
- Develop scientific research skills and apply them to digital social challenges using advanced technologies.
Admission and Graduation Requirements
Admission Requirements
Ajman University admits postgraduate students who demonstrate exceptional academic potential. Applications must be submitted electronically per the university calendar.
- Eligibility for Full Admission:
- A bachelor’s degree in sociology, social work, or an equivalent field, accredited by the UAE Ministry of Education.
- A cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 out of 4.0 or equivalent.
- A valid English proficiency test certificate with a minimum score of:
- TOEFL: 450
- EmSAT English: 950
- Conditional Admission:
- Applicants with a GPA between 2.5–2.99 may be admitted conditionally, provided they:
- Complete specified remedial courses.
- Achieve a cumulative GPA of 3.0 by the end of the first semester.
- Meet the language proficiency requirement.
- Applicants with a GPA between 2.0–2.49 and at least five years of experience may be considered (limited to 10% of seats).
- Remedial Courses:
- For Sociology and Social Work Graduates: Three courses (9 credits):
- Social and Cultural Change
- Social Problems
- Introduction to Data Analytics
- For Graduates of Other Specializations: Four courses (12 credits):
- Introduction to Sociology
- Social Theories
- Social Research Methods
- Introduction to Data Analytics
- Remedial courses do not count toward the Master’s degree.
Graduation Requirements
To graduate, students must:
- Complete 30 credit hours as per the study plan.
- Successfully defend a Master’s thesis.
Program Duration
- Minimum: 2 academic years (coursework + thesis).
- Maximum: 4 academic years (coursework + thesis).

Tuition fees
The Master of Digital Sociology program comprises a total of 30 credit hours, with a tuition fee of 3,000 AED per credit hour, amounting to 45,000 AED per year.
